A Life That Clings

A video study

Hey! You know I can’t leave you hanging! As you probably know, I love saying, “cling to Christ.” It’s the most vital thing you’ll ever do! So with that said, I want to give this lesson to everyone! My main desire is to provide something extra for paid subscribers, but I love sharing with you! So some videos will be for free subscribers, too….I can’t help myself! So enjoy! 😊

A Life That Clings

(below are notes to follow along through this study)

Hebrews 12:1

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith…”

In this study I want to:

1. Present how to live a life that is motivated by examples. (Mainly found in continually engulfing our mind in scripture.)

2. Present how to live a life that is focused on removing weights and sin. (How extreme does that look in our culture?)

3. Present how to cling to Jesus and endure.

The simple way to put it is:

1. Read and Witness

2. Run and Fight

3. Cling and Endure

Read and Witness

In 1 Corinthians 10:6 when looking back at what happened to Moses, Paul says this:

“Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did.”

— It’s important to know that in scripture we have multiple lessons and examples to glean from.

Examples:

  1. The faith we see in Abraham

  2. The purity of Joseph when the pharaohs wife tried to get him to be with her,

  3. The faithfulness of Daniel.

( All of these are things that are warning and encouraging us if we will consider them.)

— We must be men and women who read the scriptures.

—We must see the scriptures like we do our phones. It’s the place to go for everything we need.

Colossians 3:16

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”

Are we doing this today?

Run and Fight

Many in our day neglect scripture and spend a majority of our time being “busy.”

—Unless we are letting the word dwell, we will fail.

—The biggest way to change is to change the way you think. If you fill your mind with the word, you will think like the word.

Romans 12:2 says,

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

This is the key to a changed life.

Renew your mind.

What does this involve?

1. Read. A lot. (Or listen)

2. Spend time in prayer. A lot. (It’s the spirits work in you that makes real change through the word.)

3. Throw off everything that is against the word. (Be dramatic or extreme)

—Many treat holiness very “lax” in our day.

—Drop the hobby if it robs you of Christ. Drop the tv. Drop the games. Drop the late night outings. Whatever interferes, drop it. If you are married, encourage better activities and focus. Holiness and Christ are more valuable than all things!

—Fight. Get serious about knowing the word and centering your life around Christ alone.

—Chasing Holiness is NOT legalistic.

Lastly,

Cling and Endure

Look to Christ.

What does this mean?

Jerry Bridges said,

Preach the gospel to yourself, daily.

We need to understand the Gospel in its fullness in order to live a life that clings.

If we don’t, we will fall into all sorts of doubts and depressions. We will fight where there is no fight and rest in what provides no rest.
